This book offers an exceptional glimpse into the emotional, hidden side of Fouad Zakaria, a personality long known for intellectual rigour and dry philosophical logic. The work combines the author’s intimate personal memories and his long, deep experience of listening to world classical music with rigorous critical and analytical studies of the art of melody. The writer avoids the technical complexity of academics to approach music from a philosophical and social perspective, unpacking the concept of rhythm and the rational basis of modern music, discussing the present and future of music in Egypt and the crisis of popular and Eastern music, and extending his analysis to the plight of contemporary Western music, demonstrating in his fluent, captivating style that music is not a passing amusement but a higher expressive language that translates the deepest longings of the human spirit and consciousness.
