Shipping costs

Product prices do not include shipping. As soon as you enter your country and area at checkout, the site calculates your shipping cost and shows it before you pay, in your currency: Egyptian pounds in Egypt, Saudi riyals in Saudi Arabia and US dollars everywhere else. It depends on:

• the total weight of your order,
• where it is going, inside Egypt or abroad,
• where your items ship from, and
• the shipping option you choose, where more than one is offered: express, or economy for a lower cost.

Thanks to our exclusive agreements with leading local and international carriers, we can offer you some of the best shipping rates on the market.

Shipping within Egypt

One price covers your whole order up to 7 kg. Above 7 kg, each extra kilogram is added at your area’s rate, and part of a kilogram counts as a full kilogram.

For example, a 9.4 kg order to Cairo costs 70 EGP for the first 7 kg plus 3 extra kilograms at 3 EGP each: 79 EGP in total. At checkout you see the same breakdown under the shipping cost.

Shipping to Saudi Arabia

Prices are in Saudi riyals and are the same in every area of Saudi Arabia. Your order’s weight is rounded up to the next half kilogram. Which options you see depends on where your items ship from:

• Standard shipping, for items delivered from our Saudi stock: from 29 SAR for orders up to 0.5 kg (for example, 43 SAR for 7.5 kg). Delivery in 2 to 5 days.
• Economy shipping, for items shipped from Egypt: a slower overland option that costs much less than express, from 38 SAR for orders up to 0.5 kg (for example, 86 SAR for 7.5 kg). Delivery in 21 to 35 days, with no customs duties.
• DHL Express, for items shipped from Egypt: the fast option, delivered in 5 to 12 days and described below.

Shipping from Egypt to other countries

We ship from Egypt to most countries with DHL Express, at our own contract rates. The cost depends on the destination country and on your parcel’s weight (its actual weight or its size, whichever is greater, rounded up to the next half kilogram). It also includes the carrier’s fuel and service charges, which change from time to time, so we calculate it for you at checkout instead of listing it here. You always see the final amount in your currency before you pay.

These are estimates. Items shipped from Egypt are ordered from the publisher for you as soon as you place your order, and these times already include that. The product page shows the delivery time to your country, and checkout shows it for each shipment.

One order, one or more shipments

You place one order, pay once and get one order number. Order books from as many publishers as you like, and add stationery and reading accessories: everything we ship from Egypt is packed into one parcel with one shipping cost. You never pay separate shipping for each publisher or vendor. Each carrier sets a maximum weight per parcel, and that limit applies.

Sometimes the items you choose are available in different places, for example some in our Saudi stock and some in Egypt. We only split an order when its items are not all available from one place. In that case each shipment is shown separately at checkout, with where it ships from, what it contains, its own shipping cost and its own delivery time, and you pay for everything at once.

Two things to know about orders that ship from more than one place:

• Cash on delivery is not available when any part of your order ships from another country. Please pay online instead.
• Gift wrapping is not available when your order ships in more than one shipment, because we cannot wrap one gift from several parcels.

Remote areas

Some destinations, in Egypt or abroad, are classed by carriers as remote or outside their usual coverage and carry an extra delivery charge. This is rare, because we offer several shipping options. If it applies to your order, we will tell you before your order ships.

Free shipping offers

From time to time we offer free shipping on orders above a set amount. We announce the details and dates on the site and on our official channels.

Customs duties

• Egypt: no customs duties. You pay only the invoice total at checkout, which covers your products and shipping.
• Saudi Arabia, economy shipping: no customs duties either. Your parcel arrives with nothing more to pay. Orders delivered from our Saudi stock are delivered inside Saudi Arabia, so no customs apply to them.
• Other countries, and DHL Express to Saudi Arabia: some countries charge customs duties when a parcel arrives. The amount is set by the local customs authority and is usually small compared with your order. To make it easier, Hawamech covers 20% of the duties you actually pay. Send our support team the official customs receipt and we will give you that amount as a gift card for your next order, or as store credit in your account, as you prefer.

Your delivery details

Please make sure your name, address and phone number are complete and correct. We deliver with the shipping option and timing you choose at checkout.

Safe packaging and quality checks

Safe packaging is your right. We know you want books without damage, defects or even small creases for your library, so every order is packed with the level of protection its size and contents need.

Our team checks every item carefully while preparing your order and before it ships, so mistakes are extremely rare. We take full responsibility for your parcel on its way to you: if anything is damaged by the carrier, we replace the item or refund it in full, as set out in our Returns & Exchanges Policy.

Check your order on delivery (Egypt)

For extra peace of mind, customers in Egypt can inspect the outside of their order when the courier arrives, before accepting it. This comes with every order delivered in Egypt, and you don’t need to choose anything at checkout.

Gift wrapping

Sending a book as a gift? At checkout, choose the wrapping paper and a finishing touch (a wax seal with a letter or a shape, a satin ribbon, jute twine or a sticker), and add a greeting card with your own message. You can also send a greeting card on its own. Gift wrapping is available for orders delivered in Egypt for now, as long as your order ships in one shipment, and we will announce more countries soon.

Tracking your order

We start preparing your order as soon as you place it. You will receive a message when your order ships, with its tracking details. You can follow it at any time on our Order Tracking page: enter your order number, or the shipment number from the courier, with the email or phone you used at checkout. If you have an account, your recent orders are listed there too.

Delivery problems

If your order arrives damaged or incomplete, send us your order number and photos within 24 hours of delivery. If it is running late, just send us your order number. Write to us by email to info@hawamech.com or through our contact form. We reply within 24 hours and put it right.
