And because people are like metals, and the best of them in the age of ignorance are the best of them in Islam once they understand, the Umar of the Jahiliyya was perfectly prepared to become Umar Al-Faruq. All he lacked was restructuring and reshaping, and nothing is more capable than Islam of restructuring and reshaping people anew. Islam does not erase natures but refines them; it does not demolish traits but polishes them. In Islam, Umar was refined and polished until he became one of those who come only once in history.
