Whoever reads Al-Aqqad’s novel Sara is left wondering whether it is a novel, an autobiography, or a book that analyzes the character of woman in the finest detail. Sara is Al-Aqqad’s only novel, and it is intensely intimate in its dive into the depths of a woman’s emotions and the analysis of her personality, while also being highly universal about love in its developments and stages. It is an eloquent literary novel in which the heroine speaks of herself as though the character of Sara had stepped out of being a fictional figure and become a person telling her own life story with complete honesty and objectivity.
